2nd Grade Art

Colorful Owls

The second grade students will investigate the role of art and artists in society as they learn about American Naturalist, John James Audubon. For half a century, he was America’s dominant wildlife artist. As the students respond to his works from direct observation, they will be encouraged to share their personal experiences with wildlife and nature.

We will then focus our attention on the 'Great -Horned Owl', its characteristcs, habitat, and the influences that have effected them. Following a brief discussion, the students will draw a Great-Horned Owl, outline it with contrasting colors, and finally, use a watercolor wash to paint their masterpiece.
