First Grade Art
Colorful Landscapes
The 1st grade students will start the year by discussing the concept of Nature. We will talk about the physical characteristics of plants/trees and their life needs . The students will also look at various artworks of trees by famous artists and discuss the techniques of each work.
Their art project will be a mixed-media work consisting of collage, oil pastel, and paint. The students will begin by tearing brown paper and gluing it down in the shape of a tree with roots. The torn paper resembles bark, which is a physical characteristic of many trees. Next, the student will draw an autumn landscape with black crayon and color with oil pastel. Once the landscape is complete, the 1st graders, using warm colors, will smear paint the colorful leaves.
